King's Day

For the first time, I managed to be in the Netherlands for the national holiday. Despite poor weather, we walked to the town square to enjoy some of the festivities. One of the traditions is to haul out things you don't need anymore and sell them on the street. Think community yard sale along with musical performances, traditional food, and lots of orange. (The Dutch royal family is the House of Orange.) No photographs, unfortunately.

Welcome to amsterdam!

In the last hour we've had clouds and rain and sun and sleet. It's partly cloudy now. Business as usual

Morning Views in Rain

From the wheel house and kitchen of our house boat.

Living Large in Amsterdam

Finally settled in the houseboat. Listening to rain. Glorious.

Holding Up Just Fine

My knee, that is. Walked over six miles (10 kilometers) yesterday. Only challenge is going down steep stairs without a handrail because of my more limited range of motion. Later today we take the train to Leicester. That will require stairs with luggage. Not looking forward to that part. Everything else is great!

Museum Fun at the Victoria & Albert

First, we saw Undressed: A BRIEF History of Underwear. (Clever title.) Then we saw the blockbuster, Botticelli Re-Imagined. (As necessary, Google Botticelli Venus to appreciate the "shellfie".) Also had a wonderful lunch in a most glamorous cafe.

Best Travel Accessory Ever

Indian Dinner

Returned to my favorite place. Love the atmosphere and the food. (I had the best okra, although we were too busy eating to take those pix). Great evening, despite the jetlag.

Deja Vu Again

Somehow we walked right by this guy before it hit us. (Blame the jetlag.) Then, "Hey, get back here!" (We shouldn't have been too surprised as we were right by the FSU Study Center.)

Which?!...

"This is not drinking water." Does that mean the water in the bottle or the water coming out of the taps? Don't want to risk getting it wrong, but I'm too jetlagged to figure it out.

Off to a Surprising Start!

We no more than arrived, and I saw a familiar face! James, a British colleague I met a few years ago at Art Taipei, was standing in front of the British Museum eating ice cream. We chatted for a bit before Ann and I ducked into a charming little cafe across the street for a very typical lunch (mushroom pie and bangers and mash). Jetlag has hit this afternoon.

Finally!

Another most excellent break about to begin. First a few museum days in London. I'll be blogging whenever possible. Whee!

Knit a Cap for my Trip

Shiny threads make it looks like there's dew on it. (As if it won't be collecting its own dew in the UK and the Netherlands...)

Getting Lots of Help with My Work Today

With two kidz in my lap, I'm not budging. Which is good because I have lots of work to do before I leave for Europe on Saturday. Pure folly at the end of the semester!

Bubble Pizza!

On a whim, made this recipe for lunch: http://www.sheknows.com/food-and-recipes/articles/983209/bubble-up-pizza-recipe Tom loved it, as did I, and I'm not a bread fan. Not our usual fare, but we're already dreaming of a meatball version!

Tweet, Tweet

Finally started using my Twitter account. Suspect it may be more work- and travel-related. (Nobody cares what I ate for dinner, right? ;->)

Sometimes Things Move Fast

I got a surprise message in my work e-mail this morning, and now, about 12 hours later, I am under contract to teach in Korea this summer. So now, for the first time, I get to apply for an international work visa. Incredible! That was a long time coming.
