Weather Weirdness
It's currently 56*/13C here and raining sideways. Once the storm passes, I'm supposed to head out for a weekend with my friends. They live about two hours from here, and it's forecast to be 96*/36C there! Go figure. It will be like a quick trip back to Florida!

Great Balls of Fire
Neighbors and I went to a nearby village for their annual bonfire festival, held to scare away the winter witch. Weather has been cold and wet, so I hope the 13 fires burning around the cove did the trick. Fireworks followed and then a spectacular light display put on my Mother Nature herself. By then I was back at Home Sweet Home, wrapped in winter pajamas with the furnace blasting.

Falling Hard
I feared I had made a very bad mistake when the Chinese scholar I invited to my summer place insisted that she didn’t like “American” food, cheese, or wine. After one Chinese buffet I told her that she would have to eat the food here as it’s part of the cultural experience. Then I took her to sample some wine and cheese. The wine made her sleepy, but she became an instant cheese head. After devouring a block of sharp cheddar, she inquired whether it would make her fat. Rather than tell her of the other possible consequence, I took her to taco night…
In any case, we did the full tourist thing. Allison LOVED it here, calling it paradise and regretting aloud that she had just wasted her money going to Yellowstone Gardens! Say what?! Very apples and oranges. She averaged around 500 photos per outing and managed to take down the wifi here with all the videos she was sending home. Pressure's on for the next guests to be so enthusiastic!...

What a Trip!
AKA The Annual Migration to my Summer Place.
Day 1 - Drive 625 miles (1000km) in winds that could blow chrome off a bumper with a kayak strapped to the top of the car. (Before I had even left Florida, the cockpit cover was shredded, leaving me with a wide open kayak to catch all the wind and rain.) Day 2 - Repeat, except with even stronger winds. Then, just as I was trying to clear the messy Chicago traffic, the skies launched a zero-visibility deluge at me, threatening to swamp my kayak on top of my car!
Now I am safely ensconced, and my only concern is surviving the frosty temps this evening. More to follow...
