Throughout our last two days in the Netherlands, the wind blew ferociously, and the rain poured almost constantly. Back in Brussels, the wind has subsided, but the rain is coming down in torrents. By mid-afternoon I gave up on my museum plans and squished back to my hotel room with sodden boots, socks, and pants legs. When I went out again this evening, the streets were still clogged with folks splashing through puddles and wielding umbrellas in every direction. There was an impasse at all tourist attractions, from waffel stands to the Grand' Place. I'm posting a photo that shows the crowds trying to get a shot of the Manneken Pis in the downpour. Seriously, someone could get hurt out there.
I stopped at a favorite restaurant on the Grand' Place for dinner and hot mulled wine. Let's just say that I'm pretty sure Tom and I have reversed our weight loss this week. And speaking of Tom, he is flying back to Florida as I type, and I miss him so much already. Three weeks left, and I'll be homebound, too. I have very mixed feelings about that. We'll be posting about our week together at www.patandtomsexcellentadventures.blogspot.com.
