When the Dutch professor and I requested authentic Korean pizza, our Korean colleague didn't hesitate for a second: Mr. Pizza! And what a surreal experience it was, from the pizza-shaped menu to the side of pickles (kimchi sub, as I understand). But it's the pizza combinations that are truly over the top. (See wild review at https://abruptdeparture.wordpress.com/2012/04/04/mr-pizza-a-menu-planned-by-a-five-year-old-executed-by-a-multinational/) I was instantly horrified when I saw the current "special flavor." It has banana mousse rolled into the edge crust. (As humorist Dave Barry used to say, "I am not making this up.") The promotion advises you to pull it off and save it for dessert! What else is on it? Does it really matter?! So we got two pizzas to share. The first was almost pedestrian by comparison with crunchy potatoes, onions, mushrooms, and ham. The pizza makers flexed their creative muscles on our second option, however. Are you really ready for this? Shrimp on barbecue sauce with olives, corn, sausage, mushrooms, and green pepper with an egg custard rim around the edge. Yes, you read that correctly. Bring on the Korean sweet and savory. Quite the taste collision in your mouth, although the combo somehow finished with a bright, lively flavor. Needless to say, a little goes a long way, and we didn't take the leftovers for breakfast.

Quite creative, these Koreans...
